We the student organizations of Osmania University campus working for students problems and the problems related to education and the larger democracy would like to bring to your notice that the Osmania University is going to celebrate its 100 years. As part of the historical events the Centenary celebrations are going to be conducted on 26, 27 and 28 of this month for which you are also invited as the Chief Guest. At this juncture of centenary celebrations we would like to brief you about the relation of previous Presidents and the Osmania University. First president of India Dr.Babu Rajendra Prasad and the second president Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan have visited the university and have applauded the University for the Facilities that is providing for the students as well as the role of the university in democratic construction. Indian prime ministers including Jawahar lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shahstri have come and appreciated the university. The university had several such eminent personalities have visited the university. They in addition to their applause for the university have also been critical to the university with regard to its various problems.
We the student organizations would like to bring the role of Osmania University in various struggles demanding social justice as well as separate statehood of Telangana. The students in addition to their education have become part of the social movements for the progress of the society in the direction propounded by the constitution of India. The university has all these 100 years been really serving the people of the place as well as the country.
However the university has become a subject of negligence in the hands of the successive governments including the present Telangana government. The students while struggling for separate statehood have raised many issues that have been impeding the progress of the university in fulfilling its responsibility towards the people of the country. We would like to mention a few of them to your kind consideration
The University, for almost a Decade is in function without the apex policy formulating body, i.e., Executive Council. The University for formulating policies for the betterment and development of it instead of EC has to depend on the charity of the political parties. So this is an assault on the autonomous nature of university and education. This has adversely affected the University with reference to academic excellence. So in this regard we have been demanding the governments and university authorities for a longer time for the constitution of the EC. For which they have never responded in any manner.
In addition it would no exaggeration that the university is on the verge of death lacking the human potential of excellence and knowledge to guide the future generation of learners. The last faculty recruitment has taken place in the year 2012. Till date even after the formation of separate statehood the recruitment process is neglected and as a result the university is made to run by temporary contract faculty. This has adversely affected the university in deteriorating the academic standards. In addition as a result of the no recruitment policy by the governments, the university has almost 700 vacancies due to which the university has lost its NAAC A grade. If this situation continues then the day is not so far that the university as opposed to the spirit of the constitution of India instead of being a centre of knowledge production just remains as a set of physical structures that do not cater to the needs of the society.
The university when it was established had the rural poor youth in the vision. Providing education for the deprived youth with an added financial help was one of the motives of the rulers back then. But even after 100 years of its establishment the present government is not acting in the interests of the rural poor deprived people as the they are denied fellowships on par with central universities which the students have been requesting for more than a decade.
As stated by your honorable self in Kerala was delivering 6th K.S. Rajamony memorial lecture recently upholding the free thought and speech that the universities should not ʹpropagate a culture of unrestʹ and the necessity of space for ʹlegitimate criticism and dissentʹ, we are also trying our might to raise the problems of the student as well as the university community to the successive governments. However the governments have never tried listening to the voices of the students rather they are resorting to repressive measures by unleashing police onto university hostels. In the context of centenary celebrations also the same is repeated as we are talking about the problems of the university community as a whole by arresting the students in large number well in advance.
At this critical juncture when the great university with a historical past is celebrating its life and service of hundred years we want it to continue its service. But the efforts of the governments and the police are otherwise curtailing the basic freedom of speech and rights to education sanctioned by the constitution of India. While welcoming you to the centenary celebrations we also request you to address these critical issues in your address for the betterment and development of the university in particular and higher education in general.

| ఓయూలో విద్యార్థి చలనాలు - సి. కాశీంఓయూ కేంద్రంగా 2009 నవంబర్ 29న ఏర్పడిన విద్యార్థి జాక్కు ఆర్ట్స్కాలేజీ జీవం పోసింది. ఆర్ట్స్ కాలేజీ ముందు వెలసిన టెంట్ తెలంగాణ ఉద్యమాన్ని శాసించింది. తెలంగాణ ప్రజలందరు ఓయు వైపు చూసారు. చరిత్రలో కని విని ఎరుగని రీతిలో 2010 జనవరిలో 5 లక్షల మంది విద్యార్థులతో ఆర్ట్స్ కాలేజీ ముందు స్టూడెంట్ జాక్ సభ నిర్వహించింది.... |
| ఉస్మానియా నిర్మాణానికి రాళ్ళెత్తిన కూలీ ఆర్ట్స్ కాలేజీకి ముగ్గువోసినపుడు నాకు పదేండ్లుంటయ్. మా అయ్యతోటి గల్సి కంకర గొట్టిన. రాళ్లు మోసిన. ఆర్ట్స్ కాలేజీకెదురుంగ కోంటోని బిల్లింగుండె(బీ హాస్టల్ భవనం). ఇప్పుడున్న ఠాగూర్ ఆడిటోరియం అడుగున అప్పట్ల సిల్మా ఆలుండె. దాని కట్టనీకి ఇటికెల్ని మూసిల్నించి తెచ్చేది.... |
| భావోద్వేగాల కూడలి ఉస్మానియా యూనివర్సిటీ - నందిని సిధారెడ్డిఆ తర్వాత కొద్ది రోజులకే రమీజాబీ సంఘటన జరిగింది. అడిక్మెట్ పోలీస్స్టేషన్కు రమీజాబీ, ఆమె భర్త న్యాయం కోసం వచ్చిండ్రు. భర్త ముందే పోలీస్స్టేషన్లో రమీజాబీపై అత్యాచారం జరిగింది. చెన్నారెడ్డి ముఖ్యమంత్రి. ఆ సంఘటన మీద పెద్ద నిరసన. విద్యార్థులు, విప్లవ కారులు రోడ్డు మీదికొచ్చిండ్రు. అటు పోలీసులు, ఇటు విద్యార్థులు విద్యానగర్లో ఒక యుద్ధంలాగా జరిగింది. |
