Cotton University Students Hoist Black Flags, Express Solidarity with JNU
The North East Studentsʹ Union (NESO) and the All Assam Studentsʹ Union (AASU) will hoist black flags at public places and educational institutions in Northeast on January 8 and 9 in protest against the "barbaric" attack on Jawaharlal Nehru Universityʹs students and faculty.
Students of Cotton University stood in solidarity with JNU students on January 8. They hoisted black flags in front of their university gate to protest against the violence.
Lurinjyoti Gogoi, general secretary of AASU told G-Plus, ʹFirstly we strongly condemn it. The attackers need to get punished and University authorities need to ensure protection to students.ʹ
Ex-JNU student Bedanta Bikash Borah said, "You can very easily identify the ABVP people. We know them very well. This is not the first time that something like this has happened in JNU hence we can easily identify the ABVP members. They were our classmates, we know them."
ʹHRD is clearly taking the responsibility to protect ABVP students,ʹ he added. He is now afraid of the same happening in Universities in Assam.
A masked mob attacked students and teachers of JNU with iron rods, sledgehammers, and glass bottles in the evening hours of January 5. Around 40 students were injured including JNU Studentsʹ Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh.
