On 7th of August, democrats and progressives attended an event in defense of the Indian Revolution, led by the Communist Party of India (Maoist) (CPI (Maoist)) and in honor of its martyr leader, Nambala Keshava Rao, known as Comrade Basavaraj organized by the Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) at the Santo André campus of the Federal University of ABC Paulista (UFABC).

During the event, a report was shown depicting the daily lives of the guerrillas and the masses led by the CPI (Maoist) in the so-called Red Corridor, a region in central-eastern India that is firmly controlled by Indian communists.

Representatives of the AIL and the students movement “Dawn of the People” spoke about the need for a Revolution of New Democracy in nations oppressed by imperialism and semi-feudal latifundium, such as Brazil and India, emphasizing the internationalist task of defending revolutionary struggles around the world.

Imperialist aggressions against the oppressed peoples of the world were broadly denounced, citing U.S. sanctions against Brazil as an example, which through extorting aim to increase the plundering of the country’s vast national wealth, particularly rare-earth elements.

The event was met with enthusiastic support from the present masses, who cheered slogans enthusiastically. The Support Committee for AND was present, setting up a table with products from the newspaper, highlighting a special edition in honor of Comrade Fausto Arruda, an AND’s historic general director. Booklets with theoretical and revolutionary content, produced by independent students, were sold with great enthusiasm.
